Festal Intrada was written to commemorate The Queensland Catholic
Colleges Music Festival’s 20th Anniversary celebrated in August of 2010.
With an energetic fanfare opening the work, Festal Intrada is
effervescent and sparkling with dynamism and strength. The ensuing
legato melody, capturing a contrasting mood and tone, is processional
and reflective. With the support of a driving rhythmic accompaniment to
propel forward movement, this strain is consequently sustained by a
sweeping countermelody inter-weaving throughout this middle section.
Returning to the opening energy, Festal Intrada concludes with vivacity
and drive to the very last note.
