Description

Edward Kennedy

Notes from the composer:

‘Uluru’ also known as Ayers Rock, is a massive sandstone monolith in the arid Red Centre of
Northern Territory, Australia. It is the sacred site to the Pitjantjatjara people of the area, also
known as the Anangu. The nearest large town is Alice Springs which is 450km away. Uluru is
thought to have started forming around 550 million years ago, and today the site is listed as a
Unesco World Heritage Site.

Uluru is intended to be a programmatic work, reflecting this ancient site, its sheer physical
presence, its cultural significance and the indigenous people of the area.
